TASC Receives Grant From Cares Act For Bedford’s Transportation Needs

(BEDFORD) – The Bedford Board of Works approved the acceptance of the Community Development Block Grant and CARES Act grant contract for Transit Authority Stone City.

TASC received an $806,232 grant from the CARES Act for July 2020 until December 2021

Transportation Director Dennis Parsley stated the grant will fund the transportation department 100 percent from July 21, 2020 until December 31, 2021. The amount of the grant is $806,232 and there are no matching fund requirements.

Also, TASC entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Westview Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. This agreement will allow the Transportation Department to respond to the facility should an emergency or disaster occur. This formalizes emergency response plans between the two agencies.

The Board of Works received only one bid on a property located at 429 I Street. Mad LLC, owned by Dustin Matlock, submitted a bid of $7,500 to purchase the property. The Board of Works approved the only bid.

Wisley Pryotencics’s fee and contract with the City of Bedford was approved for the July 4th fireworks. The city received a total of $10,000 in donations for this year’s fireworks. The fireworks will be set off at Wilson Park around dusk. Anyone wishing to donate for the display can still do so; any other donations will be used to add to the display.

Stormwater issues have delayed the paving project on J Street. The Board of Works approved a $75,512 quote from Infrastructure Systems to make repairs in front of the old street department building on J Street.

The paving project on J Street has been delayed due to stormwater issues. During the meeting, Monday afternoon the Board of Works approved some stormwater and sanitary sewer repairs located on J Street in front of the street department location. The cost of the repairs is estimated at $75,512. Infrastructure Systems have been hired to do the work.
