Indiana Young Democrats Announces Launch Of New Brand

(INDIANAPOLIS) – The Indiana Young Democrats (IYD) announced today the launch of a new brand identity and tagline. Among other changes will be a revamped logo. The rebranding signals a progressive shift in vision and strategy over the course of the previous year to the present.

“The rebrand of Indiana Young Democrats and the appointment of our first Afro-Latina President and first Black queer Vice President signals a progressive move forward for our organization,” says Arielle Brandy, President of Indiana Young Democrats. “We are redefining Mike Pence’s backyard and representing the diversity that lives in this state.”

The rebranding is part of the organization’s strategy to evolve and create a foundation for new opportunities for its members. With an emphasis on their tagline (“Young Gets It Done”), IYD turns its attention to the fresh perspectives of the Democratic Party. The organization has already teamed up with Rust Belt Rising, aimed at identifying and supporting young, first-time candidates throughout Indiana, with a focus on manufacturing and working-class areas of the state. More partnerships are planned to be announced in the coming months.

“The rebranding represents a progressive organization that we are building for our members and candidates,” said James Wells, Vice President of the Indiana Young Democrats. “In 2018, we helped elect four of our endorsed candidates to office. In 2019, we successfully hosted the Young Democrats of America National Convention, which brought in the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, multiple presidential candidates and campaigns, and over 1,000 attendees to our great Hoosier state.”

In all, the branding embodies an organization that is reinventing itself but is still very committed to its progressive roots and ideas. The new identity builds upon its history of young Democratic Hoosiers, from the late former U.S. Senator Birch Bayh to the former presidential candidate and Mayor of South Bend Pete Buttigieg, who has continued to champion the young, progressive cause.

“In 2019, we had approximately 120 Young Democrats put their name on the ballot across Indiana,” said Matthew Kochevar, National Committeeman of the Indiana Young Democrats. “Of the nearly 80 who made it to the general election, 41 Young Democrats won their election in November, and we doubled the number of incumbent Young Democrats at the municipal level from the start of 2019.”

IYD is the premier youth-led grassroots political organization in the state of Indiana. As the official youth caucus of the Indiana Democratic Party, IYD mobilizes young people between the ages of 18 and 35 to participate in the electoral process, influence elections, promote the ideals of the Democratic Party, and develop the skills of the youth generation to serve as leaders on local, state, and national levels.

“This is an exciting change for us and marks a strategic milestone in our future direction as a party,” said Christopher Roman, Executive Director of the Indiana Young Democrats. “While our commitment to the community we serve will not change, there is incredible potential to grow. Our new branding positions us for those opportunities.”
