Beam Setting Planned Next Week Over State Road 11 In Columbus

(BARTHOLOMEW CO.) – Milestone Contractors L.P. plans to conduct beam setting operations next week as part of the $30 million interchange project at State Road 11 and State Road 46 in Columbus.

The project began late last year and includes the realignment of State Road 46 with a new bridge over State Road 11 and the Louisville and Indiana Railroad.

On Wednesday, April 29th and Thursday, April 30th, intermittent closures will take place for up to 20 minutes at a time on State Road 11 while the bridge beam setting is in process. Closures are planned between noon and 8 p.m. each day, with the exception of 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Law enforcement will be on-site to direct traffic and message boards will be in place to alert motorists. Beams will be set over the railroad earlier in the week, but no road closures will be necessary.

Traffic impacts have been minimal during construction up to this point. More significant impacts will begin in the coming months as the project progresses, including lane closures on the State Road 46 WB/3rd Street bridge in May, a full closure of State Road 11 in June, and lane restrictions on State Road 46 this fall.

The new interchange is expected to open to traffic by the end of 2020.

Motorists should slow down, use extra caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones. All work is weather dependent and the work schedule is subject to change.
