Obituary: Ralston D. (Ralph) Malonek

October 29, 1928 – April 19, 2020

Ralston D. (Ralph) Malonek, of Ellettsville, died on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at the Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility in Muncie.


Born October 29, 1928, at Ehrenfeld, PA, he was the son of Charles and Esther (Reynolds) Malonek. His older siblings were Fay, Lois and Charles Jr.
He is survived by his three children, Cynthia Ross and Jeanne, all out of area; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ralph and his significant other, Loretta Keseric, spent over 20 years together until her death in 2014.

Ralph was a 1947 graduate of Adams Township High School in Sidman, PA. He then received his Bachelor of Laws Degree from LaSalle Extension University in Chicago, IL in 1954 and his Bachelor of Arts Degree from San Francisco State College in 1957. He was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving in Washington D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, and
Chicago. Special Agent Malonek and another Agent were presented with meritorious awards and were cited for outstanding performance by Director J. Edgar Hoover. A bank robbery investigation was featured in the F.B.I. publication “The Investigator.”

He also served as an investigator for The Association of Casualty and Surety Co. in Chicago, where he and another investigator served more than 100 cases of insurance fraud in the Chicago and Milwaukee areas. He later served as Senior Security Representative for Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco, investigating corporate fraud and theft.

He performed volunteer work in Elk Grove Village, IL. Serving on the Board of Fire and Police Commission, the Police Reserve Commission, and was appointed Police Training Director. He was then elected The Board of Trustees in Elk Grove.

He ended his investigative career as Manager of Security for American Building Maintenance (ABM) Corporation in San Francisco, overseeing investigations and a large contract guard force.

He was a member of The Society of Former Special Agents of the F.B.I. for over fifty years.

He spent his last years in bible research and teaching bible study classes in rest homes and for the aged. Taught at Hillhaven Rest Home in Mill Valley, CA, and Westview and White River Lodge in Bedford, IN.

Private graveside services will be held at Springville West Cemetery.
