Bedford Man Injured After Car Hits Tree

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford man was injured Saturday afternoon after he lost control of his car while answering his cell phone.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, 23-year-old Karlo Silveti was traveling south on South I Street when he received a call on his cell phone.

Silveti told police he attempted to answer his phone and when he looked up his 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier had veered off the west side of the road. Silveti overcorrected and the car began to spin.

The passenger side of the car collided with a tree on the east side of the road then rotated again and came to a stop in the roadway.

Silveti told police he was wearing his seat belt but ended up in the backseat of the vehicle.

He suffered a laceration to his face and was treated on the scene by IU Health Hospital ambulance crew and Shawswick Volunteer Fire Department first responders. Silveti refused to be transported to the hospital.

The car had significant damage to the passenger front and rear side of the vehicle. It was towed from the scene by Mikels Towing And Recovery LLC.
