John A. Payne, Jr. 72 of Orleans passed away on Friday, April 3, 2020, at IU Health Paoli Hospital.
He was born on March 30, 1948, in Covington, Kentucky to John Payne, Sr. and Ruth (McCrary) Payne. John was a 1967 graduate of Bedford High School, he was a police officer with the city of Mitchell and retired from the
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department after 22 years, he was the
animal control officer.
Survivors include one daughter, Jaunni (Chad) Grimes of Orleans, two sons, John “J.J” Payne, III of Mitchell and Jeremy Payne of Bloomington, one brother, Jerry (Wanda) Payne of Bedford and one sister, Sandra Bell of Mitchell, seven grandchildren, Sable, Sawyer, Swayzee, Bailey, Tanner, Owen, and Evan, six great-grandchildren, Riley, Karma, Skylar, Cyzier, Nora, and Jackson He was preceded in death by his parents.
Due to the restrictions associated with the COVID-19 virus, private
graveside rites will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at Cresthaven
Memory Gardens.
Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with his arrangements.
