Pipe Replacement Projects Scheduled for U.S. 50 Near Bedford

(BEDFORD) – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces multiple pipe replacement projects on U.S. 50 near Bedford.

Beginning on or around Tuesday, March 24th, INDOT maintenance crews will be excavating and replacing drainage pipes across U.S. 50 from the junction of State Road 37 to the junction of State Road 60. As a part of this operation, multiple pipes will be removed and replaced over the span of about three days depending upon weather conditions.

The procedure for a pipe replacement is designed to have a minimal impact to peak-time traffic. Typically, pipes can be excavated after school traffic has passed for the morning and the new pipe and fill material placed before peak time in the afternoon. Gravel fill is then compacted under normal traffic conditions. Crews return to the site at a later date to place asphalt.

Work is expected to be completed by the following Friday, depending upon weather conditions. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure, but all other traffic should use the official detour following State Road 37 and State Road 60.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
