Bedford City Utilities Will Continue to Conduct Essential Services

(BEDFORD) – In an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 in the City of Bedford, essential services at the Bedford City Utilities building at 1614 L St. will be open to foot traffic for each department below as needed at the hours listed below.

“We will monitor the current situation and inform the public if these change,” said Utilities Director Misty Adams. “We ask that if you have symptoms such as a cough, shortness of breath, or fever you use other means to contact us such as phone, email, voicemail, or the drop box at the north side of the building. The drive-thru will be open as well but we ask that you use hand sanitizer provided after you enter the building or before dropping items in the drive-thru.”

The offices open in the building and hours are as follows:

Street Department – Will be open daily for phone calls at 812-279-9222 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. or email SHenderson@bedford.in.us. You may leave a voicemail at any time. The office will be closed for lunch from 12 pm until 1 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Sanitation Department – Will be open daily for phone calls at 812-279-9222 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. or email SHenderson@bedford.in.us. The office will be closed for lunch from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Automated Trash, Rear Loader, and special assistance routes will be picked up as scheduled at this time. Trash should be bagged inside the toter for pickup.

Recycling will be picked up as scheduled at this time and must be separated.
Calls for household pick-up, extra pickup or larger items will be screened when requested to best prepare employees for pick up.

Utilities Department – Will be open daily. You can call 812-275-1626 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. or email bedfordutilities@comcast.net. The office is closed for lunch daily from Noon until 1 p.m.

If you have an emergency after hours contact the water plant at 812-275-7173 and someone will screen your call in order to best assist you.

Our Drinking Water is Safe – The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water. Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, such as our municipal drinking water system, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.

Sanitary Sewers – Workers who handle human waste, sanitation or sewage will follow the CDC guidelines of basic hygiene and personal protective equipment to reduce this risk for our employees.
