North Lawrence Schools Closed Beginning Monday

NLCS

(BEDFORD) – The North Lawrence School Corporation is closing all schools beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3, 2020 due to the concern over the coronavirus.

The school corporation released the following statement at 2 p.m. today.

Thank you for your support as we work with the Lawrence County Health Department and the Indiana Department of Health to ensure the health and safety of our community. Although there still have been no confirmed cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Lawrence County nor any of our surrounding counties, we believe the safest course of action is to close all NLCS schools beginning on Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3, 2020.

This will minimize exposure and allow time to have buildings and buses deep cleaned. All school activities are canceled starting today, March 13 through Sunday, April 5, 2020. The need to add additional days/weeks of closure may be forthcoming as we continue to work with the Lawrence County Health Department and Indiana Department of Education.

At-Home Learning Opportunities will be used beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, April 3, 2020 (Spring Break from March 23rd through March 27th). Teachers have provided students in grades K-5 with print copies of at-home learning opportunities. Students in grades 6-12 will receive at-home learning opportunities through Google classroom. All information, including learning materials, will be available on the NLCS website.

Breakfast and lunch will be available for pick-up at Bedford Middle School on Wednesday, March 18 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and Friday, March 20 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. If you would like to pick-up meals on either of these dates, please complete the form at www.nlcs.k12.in.us/mealsignup or call (812) 279-3521.

The Indiana Department of Education will be providing more guidance on waiver days. We are working diligently to avoid a lengthy extension to the school year as we gain a full understanding of how to use these waiver days. As we work together through this unique time, we will communicate with families to keep your students connected to school.

Thank you for your continued support, as we work through this together.
