Powell stated, “When I ran for the 2010 Democratic nomination against David Sanders and Tara Nelson there was no opportunity to debate. Ten years later with advanced technology, we have the opportunity to reach the world. I am challenging my opponents to debate Lincoln -Douglas style. I am asking the League of Women Voters or media outlets in the District to step forward and issue invitations. I will meet my opponents ANYTIME and ANYWHERE to debate the pressing issues facing America and the citizens of the 9th District of Indiana.

“It is my hope we can start in the heart of the District in Bedford debating on Heritage radio station WBIW AM 1340. I look forward to a civil and spirited debate. I look forward to meeting my challengers and debating who is best to carry the Democratic nomination in the fall. If they don’t want to debate me now, then how do they think they are going to beat the $50 plus million dollar man U.S. Rep. Joseph Arthur Hollingsworth III (R-IN9) in November?” the 60 year old Lutheran pastor from Johnson County stated.
