Teen Arrested on Attempted Murder Charge in Bloomington Shooting

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington Police officers arrested a juvenile male for shooting another man at a residence on the city’s Eastside.

On Wednesday, January 1, at 11:40 p.m., officers responded to 3811 East
Morningside Drive after a report that a man had been shot in the parking lot.

When officers arrived they found a 26-year-old male suffering from two gunshot wounds, said Bloomington Police Lieutenant John Kovach.

Witnesses were able to give police the name of the shooter and a description of the vehicle he left the scene in.

Officers located and stopped the vehicle at 17th Street and College Avenue. The 17-year-old male was taken into custody without incident. While taking him into custody, a handgun was located on his person, Lt. Kovach added.

During the investigation, officers learned the shooting stemmed over a dispute between the two males over girls.

The juvenile male went to the address on Morningside Drive to confront the victim. At some point during the confrontation, the teen fired several rounds at the victim, striking him twice. One shot hit him in the right arm and one shot hit him on his right side.

The victim was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital where he is being treated for his wounds.

The 17-year-old male was arrested on a charge of attempted murder and was transported to a juvenile detention center awaiting his court hearing.

No more information will be released at this time. The case is still active and under investigation by Bloomington Police Department.
