Oolitic Votes on Humane Society Agreement

(OOLITIC) – The Oolitic Town Council held its last meeting for 2019 on Monday night.

The meeting was very short in order to wrap up business for the incoming town council members.

Clerk-Treasurer Jessica Staggs and Town Attorney Greg Pittman were not able to attend the meeting.

The council approved paying $800 to the White River Humane Society for their services to the town.

In a 4-1 vote, the board approved Spartan Mechanical to replace the air conditioner at Town Hall.

The other bids received were Air Master for $5,803, Dayton Heating for $3,950, and JBR Mechanical for $3,600.

After some discussion, the council voted for Spartan Mechanical because of the ten-year warranty. Some council members questioned whether the company will still be around in ten years.

In other business, the council approved transferring funds from 2019 to 2020 for the encumbrances for the year.

The hearings scheduled for earlier in the evening were rescheduled for next month due to Greg Pittman being unable to attend. The hearings will include condemnation proceedings on a few properties in the town.

Due to Glenn Gross leaving the council, the council had to approve a new hearing officer. The council appointed Johnny Bob Dillion to the position.

President Bill Kendall thanked Johnny Spears and Glenn Gross for their service to the Town of Oolitic. Below is Johnny’s and Glenn Gross’s statement on serving on the town council.

Johnny Spears has spent over twelve years on the council, and Glenn Gross has served four years.

“I suggested going to the five-member council. We had to wait for four years, but the residents of Oolitic agreed. I was on the council getting us three new fire trucks and a new fire station for a town our size; that was something great,” said Spears.
