Baby Injured in Crash on Fleenor Road

(MITCHELL) – A one-year-old baby suffered a head injury after the driver of the vehicle crashed into a bridge parapet over Mount Horeb Creek bridge Monday afternoon.

The accident was reported at 12:59 p.m. after a bystander came across the 1997 Chevrolet Lumina partially in the roadway.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reported when they arrived on the scene the driver 21-year-old Hailey Brazzel, of 360 Goosetown Rd., and her adult passenger and the baby had left the scene.

Police say Brazzel was traveling south on Fleenor Road, south of Shuler Road and was traveling around a slight curve when she lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway. The vehicle went off the west side of the road and collided into the bridge parapet stopping the vehicle.

Brazzel and her adult passenger were not injured.

They called someone to pick them up so they could take one-year-old Carson Brazzell to a local hospital for treatment. Carson who was holding a toy steering wheel at the time of the accident hit his head on it and suffered a laceration.

The three left the scene and took Carson to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for medical attention.

Police say Brazzell and her adult passenger did not report the accident. While the officer was at the scene a wrecker service came to tow the vehicle.

The officer went to the hospital to speak with the driver, who told police she left the scene because she wanted to take her baby to the hospital and have him checked out.
