Obituary: Phillip A. Deer

November 1, 1946 – November 12, 2019

Phillip Deer, 73, of Springville, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.

Born Nov. 1, 1946, in Indianapolis, IN. He was the son of Kenneth and Lucille (Hoeping) Deer who preceded him in death. He married Linda Henderson on Sept 1, 1967, and she preceded him in death in 2003. Phillip married Debi Teems on July 10, 2004, and she survives.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Myers of Springville. Jaimee Deer-Strunk and husband Alvin Strunk of Bedford. Grandchildren, Caitlin Brinkman (Andrew) of Terre Haute, Kelsey Colson (Jeff) of Williams, Daniel Strunk, and Jordan Strunk of Bedford. One great-grandson, Rowen Brinkman and another expected to arrive in May 2020; Nine brothers and sisters, Steve (MaryAnne) Deer, Kathy (Jerry) Kiefer, Theresa (Don) Armborst, Anita Deer, Tom (Pat) Deer, Becky Martin, Kenny (Terry) Deer, Mary (Doug) Schubert, and a close cousin Judy Hoeping. In addition to 9 brothers and sisters, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by a brother in infancy and a nephew, Brian Kiefer.

He retired from the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 136 after more than 40 years of plumbing. His hobbies included spending time with family, attending activities for his grandchildren and family and friends, and visiting the various casinos within Indiana and throughout the United States. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. He was hard-working, kind-hearted, selfless, giving, trustworthy, and always willing to lend a hand. He is deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

Cremation was chosen. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at French Lick Resort, Hoosier room B from Noon until 6 p.m. Please come celebrate Phil’s life with us.
