Republicans Sweep Oolitic Town Races

(OOLITIC) – The Republican candidates swept the Oolitic town races.

Republican Candidate Jessica Staggs won 73.09 percent of the vote in the Clerk-Treasurer race over current Town Council member and Citizens Party candidate Glenn Gross who received 26.91 percent of the vote.

Jessica Staggs wins another term as Clerk-Treasurer for Oolitic Clerk-Treasurer

“I’m humbled people showed their support for another term as Clerk-Treasurer. The numbers show the town continues to support me, and I will continue to do a good job for the Town of Oolitic. At the first of the year, I will work with the council on some of the financial issues; to address our water and sewage issues. We will work on grants to tackle our infrastructure needs,” Staggs stated.

Gross feels like he worked really hard for the Town of Oolitic.

“I have no future plans to run for political office at this time. I am happy for Jessica and her win this evening. I wish the best for our town and put my heart into it. Maybe in a way, too much. I moved to Oolitic, raising my kids here. I am concerned about the finances of the town. And hope they can figure it out,” Gross commented.

Oolitic Town Candidates campaigned outside Oolitic Town Hall on November 2nd.

There were five at-large seats available with eight candidates trying to earn the spots on the Town Council. In the end, the Republican candidates Johnny Bob Dillion, Phillip Hensley, Tangie Jenkins, Bill Kendall, and Dirk Sears won those council seats.
