Public Information Meeting – US 50 Road Reconstruction with Intersection Improvement at US 31 in Seymour

(SEYMOUR) – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will host a public information meeting at 5:30 p.m. (local time; presentation at 6 p.m.) on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at the City of Seymour City Hall Building – City Council Chambers, 301 North Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana, 47274.

Please use the direct entrance to the Council Chambers located on Third Street (around the corner from the City Hall main entrance).

The purpose of the public information meeting is to inform all interested persons on the upcoming US 50 proposed reconstruction, intersection improvement at US 31, and the addition of the City of Seymour sponsored multi-use pedestrian path located in the City of Seymour, Jackson County.

The purpose of the project is to reconstruct the US 50 deteriorating pavement, increase vehicular and pedestrian mobility, and improve safety through the corridor. The US 50 pavement will be reconstructed from 0.2 miles east of Agrico Lane to US 31.  In addition, a two-way left-turn lane will be constructed from the beginning of the project to the Walmart Distribution Center entrance (500 feet east of Sandy Creek Drive).

The existing bridge over Sandy Branch Creek will be widened in the median to accommodate the two-way left-turn lane and the multi-use pedestrian path.  At the intersection of US 50 and US 31, a dedicated right-turn lane will be added for eastbound U.S. 50 to southbound US 31.  Also, southbound US 31 to westbound US 50 right turn lane will be extended and a raised corrugated concrete island will be constructed to separate the right turn lane from westbound US 50 traffic.  US 31 south of US 50 will be resurfaced for 800 ft.  Furthermore, the City of Seymour is sponsoring the construction of an eight-foot-wide multi-use pedestrian path located along the north side of US 50 from Agrico Lane to Sandy Creek Drive.

The proposal requires no right of way. The project will be constructed in phases while providing two-lanes of traffic in each direction on US 50.  The I-65/US 50 interchange will remain open by providing temporary ramps and temporary traffic signals.  Access to all properties will be maintained during construction.

The environmental document and preliminary design plans are available to view prior to the public information meeting at the INDOT Seymour District located at 185 Agrico Lane, Seymour, IN 47274

Project materials and documentation will be posted to the INDOT website (Seymour District page)  https://www.in.gov/indot/2706.htm prior to the public information meeting. Any inquires can be directed to the INDOT Seymour District office (855)-463-6848.
