(BEDFORD) – The North Lawrence Community School Board met Thursday night, with Superintendent Dr. Ty Mungle, Attorney Greg Pittman, and Christy Wintczak all in an out of town meeting and not in attendance,
The board approved the theater lighting upgrades and replacement to Associate Controls and Designs. The improvements will cost $357,920. This was above the recommended bid from a couple of years ago. However, there were 12 bidders interested in the project but only one bid was submitted. LED lighting and controls will be incorporated into this project. The Performing Arts Center was first built in 1984.
The school board approved the overnight field trip request which included FFA to attend F.I.R.E. FFA camp in Trafalgar, on November 15-17. This will be an overnight trip to attend a leadership meeting at no cost to the school corporation. Cost will be paid for by the FFA.
PowerSchool Unified Talent Software for the Personnel Department was also approved, This will allow the Personnel Department computers to communicate to other computers, and departments within the school system as well as aid in reporting information to the state.
The North Lawrence Career Center received a 3D printer from Stuart Rariden, President of Stone City Products Inc. Precision Machining students will use the 3D printer to enhance their skillsets for entering the workforce.
The North Lawrence Career Center received switches, outlets, mounting boxes, light fixtures, electrical tape, and a large trash can from Bender Lumber for use in the Construction Trades Electrical Class.
The North Lawrence Career Center received mounting boxes, outlets, 2- and 3-way switches, light fixtures and 100 feet of Romex from Kirby Risk for use in the Construction Trades Electrical Class.
Logan Felts was approved to attend the F.I.R.E. FFA Camp in Trafalgar, Indiana on November 15-17th, 2019.
Todd Tanksley, Cheryl Knight, and Jenna Clark to attend the Rural Early College Network Conference in McAllen, Texas November 13th – 15th. Expenses for this trip will be reimbursed through an RECN grant procured by CELL.
Stacie Green, North Lawerence Community Schools Services was approved to attend the ISNA Annual Conference in French Lick, Indiana on November 14-15.
The barn raising scheduled for this Saturday has been moved to next Saturday at 8 a.m. the public is invited to attend. This will take place on the North Lawrence Community Schools Farm located on State Road 58, Just East of the BNL drive.
Back on the agenda this evening, was the public comment period. Last month, WBIW reported that only comments will be allowed was relative to the agenda. In addition, those commenting will have to fill out a blue comment card, and will only be allowed to speak for three minutes. This meeting the public comment period was put back into the agenda.
Doug Jones presented the school board a petition to keep North Lawrence Community Elementary Schools open which included Fayetteville, Heltonville, Needmore and Springville Elementary Schools.
