Woman Killed by Bus Identified, Coroner Looking for Family Members

(BLOOMINGTON) – Monroe County Coroner Joani Shields has identified the woman struck and killed by a Bloomington Transit bus last week and is looking for her relatives.

Bloomington Police says 66-year-old Margaret Miao-Keon, of Bloomington, was killed Friday when she was walking near the downtown transit center on South Walnut Street and was struck by a bus. Police say the accident is still under investigation.

An autopsy confirmed Miao-Keon died from blunt force trauma.

Shields is working on locating Miao-Keon’s family members. But so far Shields has not found anyone related to the woman.

Shields asked anyone who has information on Miao-Keong’s family, or if they can confirm that a surviving family member does exist, to call the Monroe County Coroner’s Office at 812-349-3222 or email her at jshields@co.monroe.in.us.

If Shields can’t find a next of kin she’ll contact the trustee’s office. The trustee will determine if Miao-Keon has insurance and if not will make arrangements for her to be cremated.
