Stars Split Matches at Edgewood

Graham Turner and the Stars split matches with Mooresville and Edgewood on Saturday.

(ELLETTSVILLE) – Bedford North Lawrence split matches with Mooresville and Edgewood in the Edgewood Invitational during boys high school tennis action on Saturday.

The Stars stopped the Mustangs 5-0 in the first round but dropped a 5-0 decision to the Pioneers in the final.

In the championship, Mooresville swept to an easy victory. Logan Prather stopped Cade Provo 6-3, 6-0 at No.1 singles, Peyton Wilson decked Adam Tlustek 6-2, 6-1 at No.2, and Joel Hammond worked past Graham Turner 6-2, 6-3 at No.3.

Caden Bradley and Jonah Cordray scratched out a tough 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Wyatt Scherschel and Cameron Gratzer at No.1 doubles, while Jake Murphy and Darrin Cummins handled Steven Graham and Konley Woodward 6-1, 6-4 at No.2.

The Stars (7-8) flipped that script in the first round. Provo had the most difficult match as he rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 10-2 win over Lincoln Hammond at No.1 singles.

Tlustek toppled Josiah Hinson 6-1, 6-2, while Turner rolled past Gavin Norris 6-2, 6-0.

BNL’s doubles tandems also cruised as Scherschel and Gratzer zipped past Nicholas McBride and Zeke Weisner 6-1, 6-1 at No.1. Graham and Woodward had no trouble during a 6-1, 6-2 win over Hayden Wilson and Chris Bitner.

The Stars will host Paoli on Monday.
