State Road 54 Near Ridgeport to Close for Slide Repair

(GREENE CO.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a complete road closure on State Road 54 in the Ridgeport community for a geological slide repair.

Beginning on or around Monday, Sept. 16, contractors will begin work to repair a slide in the soil under State Road 54.

Temporary repairs were made to this location earlier this summer after a small hole opened up do to geological movement. INDOT maintenance crews repaired the road, and after a short closure to ensure the safety of motorists, the road was reopened to one lane controlled by temporary signals.

As a part of this project, the temporary signals will be removed and the road will return to a completed closure. All traffic control devices will be in place around the clock. Heavy traffic should use the official detour using U.S. 231, I-69 and S.R. 45. An unofficial detour using Crowe Road will be available for local traffic.

Depending upon weather conditions, work to correct the slide is scheduled to last until the end of November.
