One Injured after City Vehicle Crashes into Building

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford man was injured in an accident Friday morning on Illinois Street.

According to a Bedford Police report, 21-year-old Clayton Cummings was driving a Bedford City Utilities vehicle in the 2710 block of Illinois Street when his steel-toed boot got stuck between the brake pedal and the accelerator. Police say this caused the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado truck to accelerate.

Cummings told police he was turning right to exit the lot when the incident happened.

The truck struck the corner of the city utility building.

Cummings was not injured and no individuals in the building were injured during the incident.

His passenger, 48-year-old John Page, of Bedford, complained of neck pain. He was transported by city officials to the IU Health Occupational Health office for treatment.

Police estimate damages at $10,001 to $25,000.
