Hazel Mary (Wheeler) Gerkin, 83, of Bedford, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 3:02 A.M. at IU Health, Bedford.
Born November 11, 1935, in Jackson County, Indiana, the daughter of Benjamin R. and Iva E. Wheeler.
She married William “Billy” Gerkin in 1981 and he survives.
Hazel worked at the Travel Lodge in Bloomington and the Canning Factory in Brownstown.
She was of the Christian Faith.
Survivors include her husband, William “Billy” Gerkin, of Bedford; two daughters, Mary R. Goen, of Bedford and Dora (Ronnie) Gipson, of Mitchell; seven sons, John (Patty) Sullivan, of Bedford, Charles Sullivan, of North Carolina, Wayne (Cheryl) Sullivan, of Needmore, Robert Sullivan, of Bedford, Raymond (Tina) Sullivan, of Avoca, Randall (Tessa) Sullivan, of Bedford, and Lloyd Sullivan, of Bedford; two brothers, Herbert Wheeler, of Bedford, and George (Patsy) Wheeler, of Fayetteville; one sister, Ruby (Olen) Goin, of Bedford; twenty-seven grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Annette Berry, of Oolitic, and Tammy Gerkin, of Salem; three brothers-in-law, Randy (Carol) Gerkin, of Mitchell, Jimmy (Dawn) Gerkin, of Indianapolis, and Dean Gerkin, of East Oolitic; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son; four daughters; two brothers; one sister; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; first husband, John L. Sullivan; and one son-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, with Sister Becky Ryan officiating. Burial will follow in Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.. until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
