Grants Available Through DNR Urban Forestry Program

(INDIANAPOLIS) – The DNR Division of Forestry’s 2019 Community and Urban Forestry Assistance grants program is open for application. Information about the grants can be found at dnr.IN.gov/forestry/8303.htm. All proposals must be received by Monday, Sept. 2 at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Fundable projects include tree inventories, urban tree canopy (UTC) assessment, urban forest management planning, the addition of prioritized planting, storm preparedness, risk management planning to existing management plans, tree planting, and education and outreach campaigns.

The DNR Community and Urban Forestry (CUF) program offers these matching grants annually to jumpstart or enhance urban forest management in communities of every size across the state. Funding is through the U.S. Forest Service sub-granted by CUF.

Urban forests in Indiana communities make them healthier, safer, more beautiful places to live, work and play. Among their many benefits, trees promote physical activity and social health by making the outdoors a more hospitable place to recreate and socialize. A number of communities are applying for urban forestry project funds for the first time.
