Two Injured in Three-Vehicle Accident on State Road 37

(MITCHELL) – Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on State Road 37 at Wesley Chaple Road on Wednesday morning.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department report, the accident happened at 10:37 a.m.

Police say, 74-year-old Jerry Ross, of Mitchell, was stopped at the stop sign at Wesley Chapel Road and was attempting to turn south onto State Road 37.

Ross told police the construction area had changed and he was confused.

Ross turned his 2003 General Motors Envoy south onto State Road 37 and didn’t see the Mazda CX-5 driven by 64-year-old Pamela Perez, of Bloomington.

Perez told police she was driving south on State Road 37 and saw the approaching vehicle but couldn’t avoid a collision and the two vehicles collided.

After the collision, Perez’s vehicle collided into the front end of a stopped 2012 Buick LaCrosse driven by 65-year-old Marsha Chapman, of Mitchell.

Chapman told police she witnessed the collision. She was stopped, waiting to turn north onto State Road 37 when Perez’s car crashed into the front end of her car.

Perez and her passenger, 77-year-old Marlene Rice, also of Bloomington, both complained of chest pain. Both were transported by and IU Health Hospital ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital.

Ross and Chapman were not injured during the incident.
