State Road 54 Set To Open Under Traffic Restrictions

(GREENE CO.) – The Indiana Department of Transportation announces that State Road 54 in the Ridgeport Community will re-open soon under traffic restrictions.

At this time, INDOT has determined the geological slide in this area to be stable enough to open with one lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals. The road was closed on June 4, 2019 after complications from the slide created a hole in the roadway. INDOT crews have since repaired the hole and technical services staff believe the roadway is now stable enough to allow traffic to pass under the restrictions.

As a part of the roadway restrictions, Crowe Road at State Road 54 will be closed to through traffic. This is to accommodate necessary operating requirements for the temporary signals. The signals are expected to be in place and operational as soon as possible, potentially by the end of the week. Traffic in the area should not attempt to pass until the road is officially opened.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.
