Bedford Teen Arrested on Drug Charges After Stealing Vehicle

(BEDFORD) – A male Bedford teen was arrested after a report of a vehicle stolen from Walmart Monday afternoon.

Bedford police arrested the 16-year-old male on charges of auto theft and possession of meth.

Bedford Police officers were called to Walmart at 4:41 p.m. after a female juvenile employee reported her vehicle was missing from the parking lot.

The female employee told police she let a male friend borrow her keys so he could go and charge his cell phone. The female went outside a few hours later on her lunch break and found her vehicle missing. The victim’s father arrived, who owned the vehicle and signed a stolen vehicle report.

“A few hours later officers located the vehicle parked a few parking spots away from the original spot it was parked with the suspect in the driver seat,” says BPD Chief Terry Moore. “As officers approached the male juvenile they witnessed him shove a wallet down into his lap.  Officers located a clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine inside the wallet.”

Police transported the male juvenile to Bartholomew County Youth Services Center per request by Lawrence County Probation.
