Bedford Man Arrested After Running From Accident Scene

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated Monday night after an accident at State Road 37 and Fifth Street.


Bedford Police officers were alerted to the crash at 5:49 p.m.

Police arrested 48-year-old Travis Wells of Bedford on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and OWI conviction within five years.

According to a Bedford Police report, 45-year-old Brian Enochs of Springville was traveling south on State Road 37 near Fifth Street when his 2002 Ford F150 was struck in the rear by a 2005 General Motors Envoy driven by Wells.
No one was injured in the crash.
After the collision, Wells ran from the scene into the woods located west of the accident scene.
Police set up a perimeter and used a police dog to search for Wells. They eventually located him.
Police say Wells was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. He also had an abusive attitude toward police.
He was taken to a local hospital for a blood-draw and arrested.
Police located several empty vodka bottles in his vehicle.
