Bloomington Police Investigate Sexual Assault

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington Police detectives are investigating a sexual assault that happened at an apartment complex in the 400 block of East Second Street on Monday night.

Bloomington officers responded to the apartment complex at 11:29 p.m.
A 23-year-old female told police she went to a local gym to exercise and then stopped at a store before walking back to her home in the 400 block of East Second Street.
The victim told investigators that she had seen a man walking near the intersection of Second and Grant street as she approached the intersection.
“As she neared the steps to her apartment complex, she was grabbed from behind around her neck,” Captain Pedigo says. “As a result of being choked by the assailant, she lost consciousness. She regained consciousness as she was being held down in a stairwell of the apartment complex and was sexually assaulted. After the assault, the suspect fled on foot.”
Investigators collected evidence at the scene and a local hospital.
The male suspect is of unknown race and was wearing black or dark-colored clothing and tan or wheat-colored boots.
Anyone who believes they may have seen the suspect or anyone with any information about the assault is asked to call Detective Jeff Rodgers at 812-349-3318.
