It’s Tax Day 2019 – File your Tax Return by the End of the Day

(INDIANAPOLIS) -The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) reminds Hoosiers the 2019 individual tax filing deadline is today, Monday, April 15.

Paper tax returns require the postmarked date of today, April 15, to be considered on time. Electronic filing must be submitted online before Monday at midnight, including filing through the Indiana freefile program (INfreefile).
INfreefile offers qualified individuals with an adjusted gross income of $66,000 or less in 2018 several options for filing both their state and federal taxes for free. All vendor options and qualifications for INfreefile can be found online at www.freefile.dor.in.gov.
“Not only are individual tax returns due today, but if taxes are owed to the State of Indiana, payment is due to ensure no penalties or interest are accrued,” clarified DOR Commissioner Adam Krupp. “Payments can be made online, in-person or mailed with a postmark of today’s date.”
Still not going to be able to file by the deadline? File an extension with DOR or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). If the federal extension is granted, an individual automatically has an extension with Indiana. The extension pushes the tax filing deadline back to October 15, 2019 for federal returns and November 14, 2019 for state returns.
Some military personnel are automatically granted extensions. Individuals on active military duty outside of the U.S. and Puerto Rico are automatically granted a 60-day extension period. Military personnel serving in a combat zone are granted an extension of 180 days after they leave the combat zone.
Remember if an extension is granted, it only extends the time a customer has to file, not the amount of time to pay taxes owed. Customers are still required to pay taxes owed by April 15, 2019 to avoid penalties and fees.
