Julie Lynn (Evans) Brassfield – Bedford

Julie Lynn (Evans) Brassfield, 66, of Bedford, died on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at IU Health Simon Cancer Center.
Born July 8, 1952, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Morris G. “Cotton” and Jean Evans. She graduated from Needmore High School in 1970 with 52 credits, the most credits for a graduate. Julie went on to Indiana State University School of Nursing and graduated in 1974. In 1985, she received a Masters’ in Health and Safety from Indiana University. She started her career at General Motors as a nurse at the Bedford Plant and retired after thirty years. She then went to work at IU Health in Bloomington, retiring in 2017 after fourteen years. Julie was very active in the Needmore Alumni Association and was the glue that held the Association together. She has served as past President and was currently the Needmore Historian keeping alumni informed of classmates passing. She received the Outstanding Alumni Award for all of her dedication and hard work. Julie was also very active in the Lawrence County Brain Games, right from the very beginning. She was also active in Little Theatre of Bedford. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority and a former member of Rainbow Girls of the Bedford Masonic Lodge. Julie was an active member of First Baptist Church in Bedford. She served as a Deaconess, was on the Unified Board and Music Board. She also sang in the choir singing many solos. Her beautiful voice was in high demand for many funerals and weddings. She also sang the National Anthem at the BNL boys basketball games during the Damon Bailey years.
Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Lynn (Kevin) Morin of Peachtree City, GA; two stepdaughters, Melinda Brown and Allison (Terry) Hill, both of Bedford; grandchildren, Roxie and Jude Morin, Jarrett and Braydon Brown, Benjamin and Landon Davis Hill; her beloved cat Dugan; one brother, Bob (Suzi) Evans of Needmore; nephews, Trevor Evans and Matt Evans; one niece, Kristen (Tim) Hyde; great-nephews, Parker and Lukas Evans; great-nieces, Aspen (Ben) Eckhart, Alexis Evans, Peyton, Briley, and Taylor Hyde; and several cousins who she always looked forward to meeting for lunch. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Richard Volz, and her second husband Don Brassfield.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12th at the First Baptist Church in Bedford with Pastor Nathan Sundt officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, March 11th at the First Baptist Church and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.
