Fake $5 Circulating In Bloomington

(BLOOMINGTON) – Bloomington Police say fake $5 bills are being circulated at area businesses.

Police recovered several of the bills on Sunday.
A man used one of the bills to make a purchase at the CVS Pharmacy on South Walnut Street around 5 p.m. The clerk noticed the bill was fake and refused to accept it. The man then asked the clerk to examine the rest of his money, and they found several other fake $5 bills.
Then around 6:30 p.m., the staff at Five Guys restaurant on College Mall Road reported that a customer who ordered food there returned with a counterfeit $5 bill he had received back in change.
Then a few minutes later an employee at the Wendy’s in Seminary Square reported someone had used two counterfeit bills to buy food at the drive-through window.
According to police each of the bills had the same serial number and printing that said it was not legal currency.
Anyone with information on the passing of these bills is asked to call the Bloomington Police Department at 812-339-4477.
