The following is a statement from Robert Garrett:
Hello Bedford, my name is Robert W. Garrett and I am running for mayor of Bedford as a Republican. I was born in Indiana and raised in Indianapolis. I graduated from Ben Davis High School and I was proud to serve as a Wayne Township firefighter for 22 years, which also included running budgets. Currently, I work for the CSX railroad.
I moved to Bedford several years ago. My wife has worked for the Bloomington police department for 12 years. One of my daughters works at Parkview Intermediate, one works for child protective services in Monroe County, and I have grandchildren in the Lawrence County school system. In other words, I have roots here and this is my home.
I have listened closely to folks in the community and believe I have a grasp on the most critical issues. Drugs have been a concern for myself and people that I talk to. Our children should not have to walk to the bus stop and see hypodermic syringes on the sidewalks and streets. Additional police officers are a must and additional training for our existing officers is necessary. More patrol and possible narcotics specialists are a budget priority. Our teens need a safe and enjoyable teen center and activities to engage them.
In closing, I would like you to know I’m like most of you. I work every day, no new cars, no large houses. I want to bring business to Bedford to increase jobs and help the unemployed earn an honest wage.
