Town Of Stinesville Purchases Former Elementary School

(STINESVILLE) – The Town of Stinesville Town purchased the former Stinesville Elementary School for $1 plans to turn the building into a hub for the rural community.

The Bloomington Herald-Times reports that the hilltop school which overlooks the Monroe County community of about 200 residents has been a town fixture since the 1920s.
The Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corp. closed the school last year following years of dwindling student enrollment.
A citizens committee will be formed to draft proposals for the building’s reuse and pursue grant money.
Town council member Reggie Payton says the old school could have many secondary uses, including as a community center and a museum.
