Firefighters Battle Fire on Woodsferry Road

(MITCHELL) – Firefighters with Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department with the assistant of three other departments battled a structure fire at 323 Woodsferry Road Thursday night.


Firefighters arrived at the scene at 11:21 p.m.
According to Fire Chief Paul Gillespie, Engine 52 was first on the scene.
“When they arrived at the 40-foot by 100-foot single -story pole barn with an attached garage there was heavy fire throughout,” Chief Gillespie added. “It was initially reported as unknown entrapment but turned out to be unoccupied and the owner was out of town at the time of the fire.”
Firefighters attacked the blaze with four, 1 3/4 inch lines.
“On the back side of the structure crews located LP tanks and water was applied to keep them cool,” Chief Gillespie added.
Marion VFD responded with 4 apparatus and 13 firefighters. Tanker assistance was provided by Shawswick VFD. They responded with 2 tankers and six firefighters. Tanker support was also requested from Oolitic VFD. They responded with one tanker with two firefighters and Huron VFD responded with two tankers and five firefighters.
