Fire Destroys Mitchell Home

(MITCHELL) – A fire late Thursday night consumed a Mitchell home.

Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded to the home on West Main Street at 11:36 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting smoke in the home.

The caller told dispatcher they believed the fire started near the dryer.

When firefighters arrived the utility room was engulfed in flames.
According to Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Reggie Johnson, the fire spread up the wall and into the ceiling.

The fire caused the roof to collapse.
It took firefighters about an hour to gain control of the blaze. They then spent several hours battling hot spots.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
