Emma “Jane” Kelly, 86, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018 at her residence.
Born September 27, 1931 in Lawrence County she was the daughter of Elston Ray and Lottie (Allen) Pierce. Jane was Valedictorian of the Fayetteville High School Class of 1949. She married John I. “Mussrat” Kelly on July 29, 1950 and he preceded her in death on November 18, 1998. Jane was a house wife and mother. For many years she was the
Secretary/Treasurer for the Ladies Auxillary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1686 in Oolitic, she was also a lifetime member of the organization. She was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.
Survivors include five sons: Tony Kelly and wife Yong Suk, Terry Kelly and wife Trella Ranee, Tim Kelly and wife Lee Ann, and Tom Kelly and wife Missy all of Bedford; two daughters: Mary Jane Schlake and husband Darryl, of Spiceland and Dee Dee Cosby of Bedford; foster son, Kenny Watson, of Bedford; former son-in-law and forever family, Davey Cosby; 15 grandchildren: Steven Kelly and wife Joya, Sean Kelly, Dee Dee Terrell, Megan Kraft and husband Jon, Nathanael Kelly, Jessica Porterfield and husband Daniel, Rachel Gregory and husband Kevin, Brooke Kelly, Cam Cobb, Rylee Kelly, April Hunt and husband Charlie, Jenn Warren, and Sarah Cosby, Stephanie Frye and husband Jeremy, Natalie Watson and Cam Cobb and wife Rhiannon; 24 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one brother, Jimmy Pierce and wife Ann of Bedford; two sisters in law: June Pierce, and Bonnie Porter both of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Norman, and Richard Pierce and two sisters, Deanna Delaney and husband Duke, and Naomi Gillespie and husband Bob.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kenny Waldon officiating. Burial will follow in the Pierce Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday June 12th and from 10 am until the hour of service Wednesday at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Jane.
