Johnnie Zelvin Mason – Linton
April 9, 1943 – April 1, 2018
Johnnie Zelvin Mason, 74, of Linton, passed away April 1, 2018 in Evansville.
He was born April 9, 1943 to John Nelson and Delema May (Sisk) Mason in Linton, Indiana. He married Cathy A. Hill on June 1, 1969. John was an Army Veteran and served in the states and oversees in Korea and Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic, in the 111th M.P. 3 rd Company of the U.S. Army from April 1965 thru April 1967. He attended Linton Stockton Schools and retired from Crane Ammunition Depot in 2001 with 30 years of service as an ordinance worker, warehouse and field storage worker.
John is survived by his wife Cathy, two daughters, Zoe (Chris) Breeden of Freedom, Indiana, Heather Mejia of Washington; one son Benjamin C. Mason of Burns City; nine grandchildren, Paul (Stephanie) Breeden, Greg (Hayley) Breeden, Sarah Breeden, Katora Harris, Kassidy Harris, Gabriella Mejia, Samantha Mejia, Shawna Mason and Haley Mason; three great-grandsons; four brothers, Bill Joe (Earlena) Mason of Linton, Gary Ray (Debbie) Mason of Linton, George L. Mason of Tyler, Texas, Carl F. “Pug” Mason of Evansville; one aunt, Mildred Mason of Linton; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gregg N. “Dode” Mason, Ronnie E. Mason; one sister in infancy, Edna Jane; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
John loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, the all-time joy and passion of his life. Family was very important to him. He loved reminiscing about his childhood and the colorful people who shaped his life growing up in West Linton. Reading and watching NASCAR were favorite pass times. He was a wonderful husband and father. A true and honest friend who will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Scotland Cemetery. A visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals.
The Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes and the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel are in charge of the arrangements.
