Steven Dwayne Cooper – Springville

Steven Dwayne Cooper, 63, of Springville, died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2017, at I. U. Health, Bedford.
Born October 5, 1953, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Linny and Winfred (Hoskins) Cooper. He married Diane (Jones) Walden on July 2, 1995 and she survives. He was a graduate of Mitchell High School and attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church, Bedford.
Surviving are his wife, Diane; one son, Steven Cooper, Jr., two daughters, Holly (Raymond) Vest and Tammy (Troy) Higgs; grandchildren, Cheyenne (Jake) Bell, Cody Higgs, Kya Higgs, and Logan Cooper; one great grandson, Kole Bell; one brother, Greg (Joyce) Cooper; one nephew and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
Funeral services will be on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11 a.m.. at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel with Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Sam Ely – Mitchell
Sam Ely, 71, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Richard A. Roudabush VA Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born October 24, 1936, in Lee County, Virginia, he was the son of Nathaniel Ely and Sallie (Scott) Hopper. He married Shirley Jean Latch May 12, 1962. Sam retired from Carpenter Body Works. He played bluegrass music and enjoyed going to flea markets. Sam was a U. S. Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post No. 250 and Springmill Fraternal Order of Police No. 172.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ely of Mitchell; daughter, Patricia Lynn (Don) Story of Schertz, Texas; grandchildren, Travis Redden and Shayla Story; great granddaughter, Cybella Redden; siblings, Nate Ely of Mitchell, Homer Ely of Crank, Kentucky, Arnold Ely of Pennington Gap, Virginia, Wanda June McFarland of Cincinnati, Ohio Pauline Ely of Dryden, Virginia, Ricki Musick of Tennessee
His parents and siblings, James Ely, Britt Ely, Tommy Ely, Aliene Spears, Dorothy Zeeks, Frances Tolbert, David Ely, and Tony Ely, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, January 22, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Pastor Dwight Dunbar officiating. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Following cremation, burial will be at a later date in Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from noon until the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
