James W. “Banty” “Peepers” Gore, 86, of Bedford, died at 11:11 am on Saturday, December 24, 2016 at I.U. Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born March 19, 1930 in Martin Co., he was the son of Onis Edward and Lelah (White) Gore. He married Icis May Brock on September 2, 1950 and she survives. He was a Master Mechanic with Rogers Group and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Icis, of Bedford; three daughters, Deborah Cox, Sheryl Myers and husband, Stephen, and Patsy Wheeler and husband, George, all of Bedford; two sons, Danny Joe Gore and wife, Laura, and Joseph Gore and wife, Crissy, all of Bedford; ten grandchildren, Shelly Rainey, James Cox, Valarie Lovell, Jayce Shifflett, Onis Wheeler, Kenya Wheeler, Seith Wheeler, Steven Gore, Samuel Gore, Riley Gore, Gavin Gore and Brad Myers; twenty-three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a sister, Etta R. Hall, of Bedford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Alan Gore; a grandson, Joshua Wheeler; a great grandson, Noah Gore; a son-in- law, John Cox; two brothers, Charlie R. Gore and Gene (Walter Alan Eugene) Gore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, December 30th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Kenny Walden officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Silverville. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 29th and on Friday, from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Allene (Adams) Cornett – Bedford

Allene (Adams) Cornett, 84, of Bedford, formerly of Williams, died Saturday, Decembe 24, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Carmel.
Born September 30, 1932 in Perry Co., KY, she was the daughter of Arthur and Flora (Ellis) Adams. She married Walter Cornett on August 4, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 1, 2000. She retired as a teacher’s assistant at Englewood School. She was a charter member of the Bethel Baptist Church, a Pink Lady Volunteer at Dunn Memorial Hospital and a member of the Williams Homemakers Club.
Survivors include a son, Warren Cornett and wife, Bobetta, of Williams; three brothers, Dana Adams, of Lexington, KY, Earl Adams, of Elgin, SC and Glen Adams, of Columbia, SC; a step-granddaughter, Deanna Sue Caswell and husband, Brian, of Springville; a step-great granddaughter, Natasha Sue Caswell, of Springville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Evangline Friel and Geraldine Adams.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Bill VanNuen officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Velma R. Thompson – Bedford

Velma R. Thompson, 86, of Bedford, died at 5:48 p.m. on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Westview Nursing and Rehab.
Born March 30, 1930 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of Doan S. and Agnes L. (Barlow) Williams. She married Lee A. Thompson on April 1, 1950 and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2016. She was a cosmetologist and owned a beauty shop in Williams and the Rocking Place Gift Shop and Touch of Tiffany Tea House. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended the First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed making stained glass. She was influential in Southern Indiana Neuropathy Group. The family enjoyed early years of camping with the Night Owls and the Air Stream International Group.
Survivors include a son, Brian L. Thompson and wife, Kathy, of Bedford; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Thompson, of Mitchell; five grandchildren, Shannon Minshall and husband, James Anthony, Sarah Burk, Stuart Thompson, Brandon Thompson and wife, Vicky, Leslie Pemberton and husband, Chris; great grandchildren, Sherissa, Elise, and Loralai Minshall, Braden, Lucas, Ty Paul, and Dani Lynn Thompson, Aiden, Mayah, Addalyn, and Nyah Pemberton; two brothers, Gerald Williams of Mitchell and Bill Williams of Bedford; a sister, Loeda Mundy of Bedford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Brad Thompson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 29th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor Michelle White officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Charlann E. (Chastain) Corns – Sullivan
Charlann E. Corns, 69, passed away at 3:50 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2016, at Breckenridge Health and Rehab in Sullivan.
Born March 10, 1947, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Clyde and Elizabeth (McKinney) Chastain. She married John Corns January 31, 1985.
Survivors include her husband, John Corns of Sullivan; daughters, April (Ronnie) Skinner of Oakland City, Michelle Garrison of Bloomington, Wendie (Randall) Bell of Fulton, Missouri; stepchildren, Matthew Corns of Mitchell, Christopher Corns of Terre Haute; 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; brother, Stanley C. Chastain of Bedford
Her parents; and siblings, Darrell Chastain, Carolyn Sue Wampler, Christina Gail Hillenburg, and Charles Dean Chastain, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Dr. Jerry Hillenburg officiating. Burial will be in Lawrenceport Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Phyllis E. Slaughter – Birmingham, AL.
Phyllis E. Slaughter, 94, of Brinmingham, AL. passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 in Birmingham.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of Edward and Osa (Berry) Patrick. She married Lawrence E. Slaughter and he preceded her in death November 18, 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Steven) Nagel of Birmingham, Alabama; son, Jim (Marty) Slaughter of Phenix City, Alabama; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bob Slaughter of East St. Louis, Illinois; several cousins, nieces, and nephews
Her parents and husband preceded her in death.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Talbott Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a. m. till 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Charlene Evans – Mitchell
Charlene E. Evans, 79, of Mitchell, passed away at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, December 25, 2016, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born November 5, 1937, in Wynadott, Michigan, she was the daughter of Harry and Beatrice (Kielbasiewicz) Alderman. She married Richard N. Evans in March of 1955, and he preceded her in death September 13, 1974. Charlene was a former employee of Mills Market, a 1955 graduate of Mitchell High School, and a member of the Work of God. She was a cat lover, an avid reader, and loved gardening.
Survivors include her son, Richard Evans, Jr. of Mitchell; grandchildren, Jason Guthrie, Jason Wheeler, and Brittany Evans; great grandchildren, Shannon and Kaci D’Agostino
She was preceded in death by Charles and Beatrice Bowman, her husband, and daughter, Cathy Guthrie.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 29, at Haverly Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dwight Dunbar officiating. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Knott Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral chapel.
