Gertrude Marie Goodman – Bedford
March 20, 1917 – August 28, 2015
Gertrude Marie Goodman, 98, of Bedford, formerly of Heltonville, died Friday, August 28, 2015 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
Born March 20, 1917, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Delmar R. and Lora (Kirk) Smale. She was a 1935 graduate of Heltonville High School. Gertrude married Harold Corbin in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1944. She then married Leonard Goodman in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 2003. Over the years Gertrude was employed with Sarkes Tarzan, then the Woolworth Dept. Store, Montgomery Ward, and then a cook for Heltonville School. She was a current member of the New Hope Community Church. She was a former member of Heltonville Baptist Church for many years. Gertrude was a 4-H leader, a member of the Heltonville Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, and was active in the Heltonville Improvement Organization. She was a loving mother and mamaw.
Survivors include two daughters, Patty Fletcher and husband Dale of Bedford, Penny Rainey and husband Dean of Pendleton; one son, Dean Corbin of Bedford; ten grandchildren, Gina Zukas, Tammy Todd and husband Scott, Angel Watson and husband Robert, Dena Judah and husband Parker, Nicki Bex and husband Scotty, Brent Fletcher, Mark Fletcher and wife Kara, Amy Voris and husband Joe, Wade Rainey and wife Beverly, Tracy Kemerely and husband Randy; twenty one great grandchildren; fifteen great-great children; one great-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; one son, Donald Corbin; three grandchildren, Christine Corbin, Eden Corbin, Teresa Rainey; one brother, Jerry Smale; four sisters, Margie Ford, Helen Baker, Emma Johnson, and Florence Sowders.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2015 in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Tom East officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Run Cemetery. Visitation will be from
4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
