Elizabeth M. Blackwell – Bedford
December 20, 1924 – August 18, 2015
Elizabeth M. Blackwell, 90, of Bedford, died at 4:35 pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born December 20, 1924 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Urmett and Vida (Link) Norris. She married Leonard J. Blackwell on August 4, 1946 and he preceded her in death on September 30, 2013. She was a homemaker and had worked at NWSC Crane for the war effort. She was a member of the First Christian Church and a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Gary Blackwell and wife, Carol, of Bedford; a grandson, Brent Blackwell and wife, Natalee, of Greenwood; three great grandchildren, Caiden Hill, Aubree Hill and Elisabette Blackwell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Leon “Ick” Norris.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday,
August 21st in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Alan Cloar officiating. Burial will follow
in Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon until the hour of service on Friday, August 21st at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

T.J. Shoop – Mitchell
December 16, 1924 – August 9, 2015
T. J. Shoop, 90, of Mitchell, passed away at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Garden Villa in Bedford.
Born December 16, 1924, in Walnut Creek, Kentucky, he was the son of Luther and Louisa (McConnell) Shoop. He married Jonnie Mae Hackney July 22, 1967, and she preceded him in death August 14, 2006.
He had been employed at Paoli Hospital and was a member of Carters Creek Christian Church. T.J. was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950-1952, and a member of American Legion Post No. 250. After being discharged from the army, he moved to Indiana and was a resident of Mitchell for 52 years.
Survivors include his sister, J’Reeva Tolbert, of Kingsport, Tennessee and several nieces, nephews, and their families.
His parents; wife; and siblings, Elmer Morris, Ida Quillen, Juanita Hobbs, and James Shoupe, preceded him in death.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, at Fairview Cemetery with Brother Darrin Chastain officiating. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107.
The family would like to thank Carters Creek Christian Church congregation for all of their kindnesses and affection, and the employees of Garden Villa Dementia Unit for making T. J. happy and comfortable during his stay.

Gloria Jean Roberts – Indianapolis
July 11, 1929 – August 17, 2015
Gloria Jean Roberts, 86, of Indianapolis, formerly of Bedford, died at 6:28 am on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born July 11, 1929 in Lawrence Co., she was the daughter of William Merle and Fern Marie (Turner) Brown. She married Lewis C. Roberts, Jr. on December 28, 1949. She was an excellent homemaker who loved her children and family.
Survivors include a daughter, Jill Heifner and husband, Ralph, of Indianapolis; a son, Lewis C. Roberts, III and wife,
Cheryl, of Ft. Wayne; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Judith Tewalt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with John Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
