Janice K. Blackwell – Bedford
Janice K. Blackwell, 77, of Bedford, died at 9:11 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2014, at I.U. Health Hospital in Bedford.
Born February 8, 1937, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Otho Smith and Addie Mae (Smoot) Smith. She married Jack Blackwell on June 27, 1953. He preceded her in death on June 17, 2009. Janice earned a B.A. in Education, 1972, from Indiana University, Bloomington and went on to earn her Masters in Education. She was a retired teacher with the North Lawrence Community Schools, having taught 23 years. She touched the lives of hundreds of children through NLCS. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bedford.
Surviving are her daughter, Julie Blackwell Chase, Bedford; two sons, James R. Blackwell, Atlanta, GA and Jeffrey S. Blackwell, Bedford; grandchildren, Kyle (Kyle) Chase, West Baden, Kory (Jamie) Chase, Tampa, FL, Kip (Nicole) Chase, Shanghai, China, and Kevin (Megan) Chase, Redding, CA, Nate (Amanda) Blackwell and Chad (Nicolle) Blackwell, both of Atlanta, GA; Jacke Blackwell and Logan Blackwell, both of Fishers, IN; great grandchildren Kannon, Konner, Jack, Andy, Will, Kenton, Marlee, Brayden and McKenna; and one brother, Warren Smith, Bedford
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Chester and Lowell Smith; and one sister, Charlotte Lewis.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Bedford. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, Bedford.Friends may call from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. Thursday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
