Thelma Bennett – Medora
Thelma Bennett, 87, of Medora, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at her residence. Arrangements are pending at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
Paul David Allen – Loogootee
Paul David Allen, 62, of Loogootee, formerly of Bedford, died at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Prairie Village Nursing and Rehabilitation, Washington, IN.
Born December 9, 1951, he was the son of Paul and Marjorie Lee (Clements) Allen. In addition to his parents, his grandparents, Floyd and Clara Gee Clements and John and Ola Bays Allen, and one uncle, Robert Allen, preceded him in death.
Eight cousins, Jeff Allen, Debbie Lewis, Mary Ann Faudree, Steve Allen, LuAnne Allen, J.B. Allen, Jamie Neff and Michael Allen and their families and three uncles, Carl, John and James Allen, survive.
Mr. Allen attended Indiana University, earning a B.A. in history and political science, in 1973, M.S. in history and philosophy of education in 1980, and an M.S. in secondary. Doctoral studies in history and education were completed in 1979 and 2001. He was awarded the following academic honors: Dean’s List – College of Arts and Sciences; Phi Delta Kappa, and Pi Lamda Theta. Mr. Allen was also named a Fellow of the Royal Society and a Fellow of St. George’s College/Chapel, Windsor Castle.
His paternal family has resided in Indiana since 1813. Consequently, a long-time interest in genealogy prompted memberships in the following hereditary societies: General Society of Colonial Wars; Sons of the American Revolution; Sons of the Revolution; General Society of the War of 1812; Descendants of Mexican War Veterans; Sons of Union Veterans; Organization of Indian Wars of the United States; the Association of Indiana Pioneers; and the St. George Society of New York.
The Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home will conduct services; no public visitation is planned. A private family graveside service will be held at Old Salem Cemetery on the grounds of NSWC Crane.

Andrew L. Haungs – Chicago
Andrew L. Haungs, 89, of Chicago, IL, formerly of Bedford, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, in Park Ridge, IL.
Born August 8, 1924, in Bedford, he was the son of Lawrence and Mary (Schmidt) Haungs.
He was married to Theresa (Howley) Haungs for 51 wonderful years.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, and had been an active Catholic in many Chicago area parishes. He was a stone planerman having worked in Bedford, Bloomington, and Chicago, IL. He was veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, WWII and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa Haungs; two sons, Mike and John (Patricia) Haungs; grandfather of David, Daniel and Michael Haungs; and dear brother of the late Frances Wagner, Alice Abel, Anna Haungs, Mildred Delpha and Louise Haungs. He was the fond uncle of many.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Bedford, with Fr. Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Bedford.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford.
