Josiah Alexander Black – Martinsville
Josiah Alexander Black passed away on December 20, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville. He is the son of Jordan and Kayla (Sego) Black.
Survivors include his parents Jordan and Kayla Black, of Martinsville; two brothers Jacob Black and Joshua Black of Martinsville; one sister; Jayla Black of Martinsville; grandparents Melinda Lewis, of Bedford, Tony (Cathy) Sego, of Bedford, Pop Pop Eric Martin, of Bedford, John and Joanne Black, of Springville; great grandparents Larry and Marilyn Sego, of Bedford; Judy Cunnington, of Bedford and Sharon Kyser, of Michigan and Bud and Linda Smith, of Bedford.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday December 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Bud Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens.
Donations made be made to the Black Family, at Bedford Federal Savings Bank at 1030 15th St. in Bedford.
Wayne A. Kern – Bedford
Wayne A Kern, 93, of Bedford, died at 9:50 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Stonebridge Health Campus.
Born Arthur Wayne Kern, in 1919 in Plattsburg, NY to Louis Raymond Kern and Amanda Lillian Beaudete. He married Reva Jane Cannedy on September 21, 1940 and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2013.
He was a postmaster at the Bedford Post Office and a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army. He had served as the chairman for the Lawrence County Democratic Party and was named Sagamore of the Wabash in 1968 by then governor, Roger Branigan. He was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Lou Tlustek (Hein) of Bedford, Diana Lyn Armstrong (Larry) of Lebanon and Cathy Ann Hackney (Ken) of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Kaya Pace (Robert), Ilana Tlustek, Hein K Tlustek (Stephanie), Marthea Jackson (Jeff), Alida Bingham (Aaron), Terry Tlustek (Bethany), Tamatha Bailey (Tracy), Kristina Matlock, JoAnna Cobb (Ed); twenty-six great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Esther Carlton Kern; a brother, Thomas Raymond Kern; sisters, Thelma Marie Parks, Lois Loraine Webster and Nina Arbuckle; a son-in-law, Ron Smith and a great granddaughter, Anna Tlustek.
Private services are planned. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery with military rites accorded at the graveside by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion and D.A.V. Chapter 2. Visitation will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, December 27th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
