Ruth Ann Roach – Shoals
Ruth Ann Roach, 82, of Shoals, passed away on December 15, 2013 at the Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on September 24, 1931 in Martin County, to Emerson and Hazel Gertrude Kidwell Shipman and she was raised by the later Lester and Dessie Smith. Seh married Ray W. Roach in 1948 in Martin County and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1996.
Ruth Ann retired as director of the Martin County council on Aging and served on the Shoals Senior Citizens Housing Board. She was weekly contributor to the Shoals News for several years with a column News from the Shoals Senior Center and after her retirement t and About. She was an active member of the Shoals Christian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Bowden, of Bloomington and Joyce Ann Road, of Indianapolis’ two sons, Ray W. “Sonny” Roach II, of French Lick and Ronald L. Roach, of Shoals; four grandchildren, Courtney Bowden and Mica Shonk, both of Bloomington, Nathan Roach, of Shoals and Josh Roach of French Lick; three great-grandchildren, Damon Roach, of Shoals, Bryanna and Gavin Roach, of French Lick; nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Norma L.Wade and Barbara Piper, a brother James Shipman and a brother Billy Shipman in childhood.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals and the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Shoals Christian Church with viewing one hour prior to the service. Bro. Matthew Sullivan will be officating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Preferred memorial are to be made to the Shoals Senior Citizens Center.

Marvin H. Manion – Oolitic
Marvin H. Manion, 85, of Oolitic, went to be with the Lord at 9:15 am on Saturday, December 15, 2013 at his residence.
Born August 18, 1928 in Lawrence County he was the son of Roy Evert Manion and Gladys Omea (Vaughn) Manion. He married C. Jeanie Bailey on July 7, 1961 and she survives. Marvin owned and operated several service stations including the Phillips 66 Station in Oolitic, and the Marathons at the Intersection of 37/50 and 16th Street. He later owned the Manion’s Hardware Store in Oolitic before retiring. He was a member of the First Free Methodist Church, and the Patriot Lodge #750 F & AM of Oolitic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was well known in the family for his fabulous blackberries.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie of Oolitic; one brother, Kenneth L. and wife Bobbie Ann of Oolitic, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Morris Manion and one sister, Louise Smith.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 18th in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Pastor John Lane officiating. Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm, with a Masonic Service at 7 pm on Tuesday, December 17th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.

Reva Kay Mundy, 72, of Mitchell, passed away Sunday afternoon at her home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
Lionel Howard Quackenbush – Bedford
Lionel Howard Quackenbush, 74, of Bedford, died at 3:15 P.M. on Friday, December 13, 2013, at the IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
Born November 15, 1939 in Bedford, Indiana, he was the son of Morris Carl and Candace (Davis) Quackenbush Gyger.
He was a retired inspector for Ford Electronics, later Visteon . Lionel was a graduate of Oolitic (IN) High School and a member of Donica Memorial Church of God.
Surviving are one sister, Patricia Jackson, Claymont, DE; one half-sister, Janet (Malcolm) Middleton, Huron; one half-brother, John Gyger, Huron; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry Quackenbush; one sister, Linda Quackenbush; and his uncle and aunt, Bill and Wilma Quackenbush.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, Bedford, with Pastor Kendall Hendrickson and Farrell Sowder officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bedford. Friends may call on Monday, 4 p.m to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty F. (Crim) Mackinson – Shoals
Betty F. Crim Mackinson, 86, of Shoals, entered into eternal rest on December 12, 2013 at 2:29 p.m. at the Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper.
Betty was born to Jame and Leatice Tinkle Crim on June 20, 1927 in Shoals. She graduated from Shoals High School in 1945 and on June 24, of the same year she married Richard Mackison and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2000.
Betty was an active volunteer in the Shoals community. She served for over 25 years in various capacities of the Boy Scouts of America. She was an active member of the Shoals Christian Church, the Shoals Senior Citizens and the Woman’s Study Club. When her sons were younger she greatly enjoyed being involved in their many activities. She will be fondly remembered as the pleasant employee at the former Alco Dime Store in Shoals.
She was a deeply devoted mother to her two sonsm, Dana and wife Karen Mackison, of Carrolton, Texas and Thomas Mackison, of Shoals.
Preceding her in death is one brother, John Crim and half-brother Roy Crim.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Queen-Lee Funeral Home in Shoals. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Spring Hill Cemetery.
