Fred DePierre – Safety Harbor, FL.
Fred DePierre, 95, passed away on November 5, 2013, in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Fred was born in Bedford, Indiana, on June 28, 1918, the son of Charles and Helen (Zoph) DePierre, originally of Chicago. He was a graduate of Bedford High School in 1936, and a veteran of World War II.
He married the late Kathyrn Graber on December 2, 1942, and they were a devoted, loving couple for 70 years until her death on May 31, 2013. Within weeks of their marriage, he was deployed with the US Army to the Philippines and remained there for the duration of World War II. After his return from the war in 1945, they settled in Bedford, Indiana, and Fred went to work for the Crane Naval Depot, in Indiana, and worked as the Inventory Control Manager until his retirement in 1973.
He and Katie almost immediately thereafter made a new life in Florida, ending up in Safety Harbor. Fred was an avid golfer, and together he and Katie enjoyed bowling, socializing with friends and family, and traveling. They were founding members of the North Bay Community Church in Safety Harbor and remained so to the end of their lives.
Fred loved his wife, his home, his family, and equally his shiny, new cars. Nothing made him happier than a new Nash/Rambler. He had a twinkle in his eye, and a voice that could inspire nations. He was a man of few words but great with an ascerbic comment.
Fred is survived by his sister-in-law Patty Spera (Dominic) and his brother-in-law Paul Graber (Jeannie), and numerous nieces and nephews who admired and loved him. Although he and Katie had no children, he stated many times that for Katie and him all of the nieces and nephews were their children. In that regard, he was fortunate to have the love, support, and companionship of his niece Carole Ann these last months since Katie’s death.
Fred, the last surviving member of his family, was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen DePierre, his sisters Mildred Stade, Marie Cazee, and Elfrieda Bochenek, and his brothers John, Howard, Charles, and Richard DePierre.
