Robert “Gene” Mundy – Mitchell
Robert “Gene” Mundy, 86, passed away at 5:50 a.m.Monday, September 2, 2013, at Mitchell Manor Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born February 20, 1927, in Columbus, he was the son of Joe H. and Vida (Schuff) Mundy. He married Maxine Witmer October 12, 1947. Gene retired from Mitchell Transport with 32 years of service, and was a farmer and Beck’s Seed dealer. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1946. He was a 24 year member of the Marion Township Rural Fire Department, Lawrence County 4-H Fair Board, Farm Bureau Board, and served 21 years on the Board of Supervisors of the Soil and Water Conservation District. Gene was a member many years of the First Christian Church and currently a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, former commander of Warren T. Brock American Legion Post No. 69, and a member of American Legion Post No. 250.
Survivors include his children, Anita Gayle Schulz and husband, Robert, Sellersburg, Jana Jean Mann and fiancé, Dennis Amstutz, Mitchell, Alan Lee Mundy, Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Gregory Warren Schulz, Eric Robert (Erin) Schulz, Melissa Jean (Brent) Courter, Monica Ranae (Adam) Ralph Elisabeth Delynn Mundy, Ethan Alan Mundy, EmmaLee Christine Mundy; great granddaughters, Kyleigh and Breanna Courter, Olivia and Chelsea Ralph; sister, Sherlia Hunter, Mitchell; special friend, Jeannie Padgett, Mitchell; several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife; son in law, Tony Mann; great granddaughter, Addison Lynn Ralph; brothers, Joe B. Mundy and his wife, Josephine, and an infant brother; and brother-in-law, Myrlen Hunter.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 7, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Reggie Clark and Rev. Bill Graham officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post No. 250 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9107. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church.
