Rev. Joseph Stevens – Bedford
Rev. Joseph Stevens age 92 of Bedford went home to be with Jesus after years of service for the Lord, on Tuesday August 20, 2013 at 12:20 p.m. at Garden Villa in Bedford.
Joe was born in Indianapolis on August 14, 1921 to James L & Nellie (Wiese) Stevens, he married Helen Mundy Stevens on April 14, 1939 in Bedford and she preceded him in death on October 27, 2011 after 72 years of marriage. Joe was an US Navy Veteran of WWII, & he retired from General Motors in Bedford in 1978. Rev. Joe Stevens and his wife Helen founded the Friendly Bible Church in Bedford in 1974, Joe served as Pastor full time until 2008, he preached for over 50 years
Survivors include two daughters; Linda Jenkins and husband Tom of Bedford, Sharon Lyons and husband Carl of Bedford; two sons; Joe Stevens and wife Brenda of Bedford, Jerry Stevens and wife Ana of Bedford, 19 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 27 great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Mary Stevens of Bedford, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen Stevens, one son and daughter-in-law Gary and Bea Stevens, 4 grandchildren; Debbie Landstrom, Jerry Stevens, Jr., John Wesley Stevens, and Jimmy Nelson; great grandchildren; Chad Rumsey, Stephanie Brooke Bauer, George Edward Jenkins, II, Evan Blakey, 3 Brothers; James Stevens, Jr., Noble Stevens, Lorenzo Stevens, two sisters; Mary E. “Sissy” Burgess, and Alice Jaggers.
Funeral Services will be on Saturday August 24, 2013 at 2 p.m at Cresthaven Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Jenkins and Bro. Brent Stevens, officiating. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at service time at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Graveside rites will be given by American Legion Post #33, Bedford.
