Ann Deyo Tanner (Huse) Hunckler – Bedford
Ann Deyo Tanner (Huse) Hunckler, of Bedford, IN, died peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family on July 17, 2013 at the age of 69.
Ann was the beloved wife of Michael E. Hunckler. Ann and Mike married August 1, 1999, having met while both worked at IU Health (formerly Bloomington Hospital) Bloomington, IN. The two enjoyed traveling, which enriched their time together. Ann had a special knack for finding the most charming hotels, delicious food and meeting interesting new people along the way. During their 15 years of marriage they lived in their home near Lake Monroe. After being diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011, Ann gracefully fought a valiant battle for more time. Her health did improve greatly, and we celebrated her birthday last summer with a surprise party at her favorite restaurant in Bedford, The Limestone Grill. She and Mike were able to have a lovely trip to France late last summer, enjoying the gift of life together.
Ann was born on June 23, 1944, to Dr. Henry S. Tanner and Ruth Deyo (Dugan) Tanner in Washington D.C., while her father was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital during WWII. Ann attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, IN, graduating in 1962. After graduation Ann married Stephen Michael Huse, and attended Indiana University and Butler University, receiving a B.S. in English Literature from Butler University in 1967.
As children departed for college, Ann joined IU Hospital Bloomington working first for the Hospital Foundation, and later in patient registration. While working at Bloomington Hospital, Ann completed her Master’s Degree at Indiana Wesleyan University. Throughout her life in Bloomington and Bedford she volunteered her time for community projects and was a devoted member of both Tri Kappa and P.E.O. (Chapter AE). Ann, a devout Christian, spent much of her time very actively volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Bedford, IN, where she was a member of the St. Vincent Alter Society and the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Cherishing her memory, along with her beloved husband, Mike Hunckler, is Ann’s brother, John T. Tanner (Diane) of Ft. Collins, CO. Also surviving are her children, Kimberly Huse Marsh (Arthur), Jill Huse Tietz (Chris), and Craig Stephen Huse (Jill). Step-children include, Matthew Hunckler, Aaron Hunckler (Jenny), and David Hunckler. Ann was a loving and adored grandmother to Andrew, Peter, and Claire Marsh, Hailey and Taylor Jackson, and Sophia and Carson Huse. Step-grandchildren are Allison and William Tietz, Caden Hunckler, and Damon Lewis. She is also survived by two nieces, Jennifer Tanner Gardner (Chad) and Cammie Tanner Stair (Phil), and their children. Former husband, Stephen Huse (Lila) also survives.
Ann was preceded in death by both parents, and by infant daughter, Kelly Ann Huse, born April 16, 1964, and died of sudden infant death syndrome on July 26, 1964.
Ann’s family wishes to extend their most sincere appreciation to Dr. Larry Einhorn and his team at IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, as well as her team members of IU Health Hospice, Bloomington, IN.
