William R. Guthrie – Mitchell
William R. Guthrie, 81, of Mitchell, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, at IU Health Bedford Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
Katherine McGowen – Bedford
Katherine McGowen, 81, of Bedford, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at 1:25 a.m. at IU Health Bedford Hospital. Born July 16, 1931 in Monroe County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Frank D. and Mary A. (Zink) McGowen.
She graduated from Unionville High School with the Class of 1949. She worked at Harmon Motive in Martinsville, IN, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Springville.
Survivors include her brother, Richard McGowen and wife Lula, of Springville; two nephews Travis McGowen and wife Tara, Tyler McGowen and wife Beth; two great-nieces Madelyn and Marium; and one great-nephew, Samuel.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Manzenberger officiating. Burial will be in Springville Cemetery West, Springville. Friends may call on Thursday at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ronald I. Nikirk – Oolitic
Ronald I. Nikirk, 72, of Oolitic, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 1:50 a.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at his home.
Born June 30, 1940 in Lawrence County, he was the son of David and Margaret (Moore) Nikirk. He married Carolyn Sue Sargent on December 20, 1961 and she survives. He was in the construction business for forty-eight years and the co-owner of Sargent Construction for twenty-seven years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961, serving two years in Germany. He was a member of the Avoca Baptist Church, Bedford Masonic Lodge #14 F&AM, Murat Temple and Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. He was a devoted husband, father and papaw.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Sue, of Oolitic; two sons, Bryan Nikirk of Noblesville and his children, Lauren and Katie Nikirk and their mother, Jill Dehnke and Brad Nikirk and wife, Julie of Brownsburg and their children, Hannah, Josh and Paige Nikirk; three sisters, Jean Cobb and husband, Claude, Patty Johnson and husband, Chuck and Carolyn Nikirk; three brothers, Russell Nikirk, Reggie Nikirk and wife, Rebecca, Randy Nikirk and wife, Trena; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judith Sue Brummett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 21st at the Avoca Baptist Church with Pastor Kyle Witmer officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be accorded by members of Gillen Post #33 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 20th at the Day & Carter Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service on Friday, December 21st at the Avoca Baptist Church. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.

Marvin Thomas Hardwick, Sr. – Bedford

Marvin Thomas Hardwick, Sr., 73, Bedford, passed away at 6:38 p.m. on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at I. U. Health, Bloomington.
Born March 26, 1939 in Bedford, he was the son of Robert and Alleta (Starr) Hardwick. He married Marlene Lockenour on August 7, 1959, and she survives. He was a truck driver, retired. He was a member of Gullets Creek Baptist Church, Needmore and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He loved guns and was a member of the N.R.A.; he had a passion for knives and collected all kinds of things. Everything he had was special for one reason or another. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved his country.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Hardwick, of Bedford; one son, Tom Hardwick, of Mitchell; two daughters, Debra Kern, of Mitchell, and Sharlene and husband John Anderson, of Avoca; six grandchildren, Sami, Cory, Michelle, Shannon, Dustin and Kimi; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Rick Hardwick and wife Beverly, of Springville and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dallas Ray and Tim Hardwick; three sisters, Brenda Golden, Rita Sullivan and Susie Pierce and one granddaughter, Amanda K. Hardwick.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Brim officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
